THE FULL STORY OF OUR COMMUNITY HUB CAMPAIGN

A Home for Our Heritage. A Place for Our Future.

For 37 years, our community has carried its culture in our hearts, in our homes, and in borrowed spaces. We have celebrated under hired roofs, taught our children in temporary halls, and gathered wherever we could — because our togetherness mattered more than the walls around us.

But every year, quietly, a question echoed in our minds:

“When will we have a home of our own?”

Today, we stand at the moment where that dream can finally become real.

In 1989, a small group of Bengali families came together for the first Durga Puja in Melbourne. There were no microphones, no decorations, no grand halls — just people, devotion, and the warmth of community.

From that simple beginning, something extraordinary grew.

By 2004, BPCSV was born — a community organisation built from love, volunteerism, and the belief that our culture deserved a place in Victoria.

In 2007, BACV received DGR endorsement for the BACV Gift Fund — a milestone that meant our cultural dreams could finally be supported through tax‑deductible giving.

Over the next decade, our children grew up learning Bengali arts, our elders shared their memories, and our festivals became landmarks in Victoria’s multicultural calendar.

But still — we had no home.

🌟 The Search for a Place to Belong

Between 2019 and 2026, our teams inspected 28 properties across Victoria. Some were too small. Some were too expensive. Some were too far. Some simply didn’t feel right.

We kept searching — not just for land, but for a place that felt like us.

And then, in 2026, we found it.

At 1910 Westernport Highway, Pearcedale, we discovered a property that made our hearts stop for a moment.

Ten acres of open sky. Space for festivals, gardens, classrooms, performances, and dreams.

A beautiful home. Ready to support cultural programs and generate rental income.

A welcoming neighbourhood. With Sikh and Buddhist community centres nearby — a place where culture is respected and celebrated.

A two‑year settlement period. Time to raise funds responsibly, transparently, and with unity.

This land didn’t just meet our needs. It felt like destiny.

Our culture is not just music, dance, and art. It is the stories our parents whispered to us. It is the festivals that made us feel alive. It is the language that carries our emotions. It is the values we hope our children will inherit.

Our children deserve a place where they can discover these traditions for themselves — not just hear about them. Our elders deserve a place where their memories can be shared — not stored away. Our families deserve a place to gather — not rent. Our artists deserve a place to create — not improvise.

A permanent home gives our heritage somewhere to live — and our children somewhere to carry it forward.

This Hub is not just a building. It is a promise.
